Tafsir of Surah Al-Baqara 2:59
﴿فَبَدَّلَ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا قَوْلًا غَيْرَ الَّذِي قِيلَ لَهُمْ فَأَنزَلْنَا عَلَى الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا رِجْزًا مِّنَ السَّمَاءِ بِمَا كَانُوا يَفْسُقُونَ﴾
Translation of the meaning
But those who wronged changed [those words] to a statement other than that which had been said to them, so We sent down upon those who wronged a punishment [i.e., plague] from the sky because they were defiantly disobeying.

والإبدال من الشيء يقتضي ترك المبدل منه؛ إذ لا يجمع بين البدل والمبدل منه ولهذا لا تستعمل هذه العبارة إلا فيما ترك اجتماعهما،«اقتضاء الصراط المستقيم لمخالفة أصحاب الجحيم» 1/486
